Future Pinball Simpsons Download Pc
SLAM's Pinball Emporium. Not been on here for a while but I am still actively updating and creating new tables for Future Pinball. I'll post the download link. Alongside Pinball FX3's debut, comes the Universal Classics Pinball pack, which features original tables based on Steven Spielberg's Jaws, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, and Back to the Future. Pinball FX3 is available for free download now on PS4, Xbox One and PC. It comes with the Sorcerer's Lair table,.
Greetings and Salutations good people.. Today, I've come across something very special and close to my heart. I used to spend a lot of times in arcades and amusement halls when I was younger. Raining down my wrath upon Galaga machines, destroying countless hardwood floors with my horrendous bowling skills, and gorging on frosty chocolate milkshakes. Arcades were a golden age for gaming. So when I discovered a pinball simulator that not only has actual physics but also recreates real life tables from back in the day, I was sold. FUTURE PINBALL.
A lot of folks write off pinball as a simple and easy game. After all, it's just a little chrome ball bouncing a glass enclosure right? BAH, BE GONE PHILISTINE! Having played countless tables in my hayday, I can honestly tell you, it's a game nobody truly masters. Any Tom, Dick and Harry can spank a table like it owes them money, there's no real talent/skill in that. It's learning the ins and outs of each of those tables that gives pinball such a unique appeal. Future Pinball delivers on that aspect in spades.
It's a completely open source and free sim, which means there are hundreds of tables premade ready for download (I'll include links below) and you can even make your own. I tried my hand at recreating one of my favorite tables (A Williams 'Simpsons' Table from 2003) but my hazy memory caused me a bit of trouble. You could easily lose hours in the editor, even if you have no designing experience like myself.
Controls are quite customizable as well, you can set them to whatever you wish in the options menu. Personally, I used Xpadder to set the flippers to the left and right triggers on my XBOX 360 Controller. It adds an excellent sense of spring and feedback to the game and made it a much more immersive experience. Ford Falcon Ef Manual Transmission on this page. If this is your first time playing any sort of pinball game, think of each table as a collection of mini missions.
Every one will have a different set of objectives and way to earn points and snag extra balls. For example, on the table 'Medieval Castle', one of the objectives is to knock out of a group of knights gathered at the center in order to advance into the castle itself. From there, you can surf the moat, do little jousting matches, free prisoners, and a variety of other things. Every table is full of little things like that, which gives the game so much replay value. Most of the time, you can look up at the top screen of the cabinet to see what to do next, but by no means are you obligated to complete any missions. Feel free to just mess around and knock your balls against those flippers till you pass out. It also doesn't hurt that FP is a strikingly gorgeous game.
There's plenty of options to make it look as drool worthy or as plain as you want. Pretty handy for letting just about any computer to run it.
The majority of the tables I played were all vibrant and well done with just the perfect amount of flash. The redone classic tables from the 60's/70's/80's/etc were also perfectly treated. The people who take the time to recreate them usually have the actual table within their grasp, so accuracy is always a top priority. You can also switch up your views on the table from a low perspective (Flipper View), to the scrolling perspective (Following the ball), or just to a zoomed out perspective (Whole Table view). If you were never around to enjoy the art that was Pinball in it's glory days, definitely take a gander at this one.
It takes the best tables ever created, adds a bit of polish, and even lets you craft your own maniacal creations. Give it a shot!
I play both visual pinball and Future Pinball. The 10-15 best tables on Visual P is really good, but I think Pinball Arcade is ten times better.(just wait until the pc version is available) Future Pinball is also getting better with Physics 2.4 (but it is still a bad physics engine) Future Pinball is the only way to play all the latest Stern tables though and the graphics is getting really nice.(just check out the new Transformers table coming soon) If anyone is thinking of checking them out I recommend you try J. Salas tables first on VP and Slamt1lt tables with Future Pinball. There are other great creators also but I seem to play tables by those two the most. VP is a great engine. Problem is that there are some severe performance bottlenecks. Most likely because to get the fullest experience, you need to have several programs interfacing with one another and it just isn't very well optimized. JPSalas makes incredibly detailed tables.
His Eight Ball Deluxe is among my favorite pinball experiences ever. Also check out anything by Megapin (Groni). While not always as visually polished as JP's versions side by side, they offer a much more gruelling experience.
As always, two must see tables are Beat This and The Beatles, both original tables with great rulesets and a nice mix of old EM feel with newer SS features. Well it basically boils down to, TPA is good, but it's not a real table, Visual Pinball has the whole 'you can put it in a cabinet' thing going on and it can be any size.
1) I can't fit a full size table in my house 2) Even if I could, that's only one table to play on 3) Cabinet can be ANY size I honestly am not holding out hope for Farsight creating a cabinet compatible version, for the userbase that actually own a cabinet, it's such a niche product, it's just not worth their time. They've never hinted at such possibility and they're having a hard enough time getting the PC version out the door. They've explicitly said a few times that they are looking into making the PC version with cabinet support. All the mobile versions support portrait orientation and that's really all they NEED to do besides allowing fully customizeable keymapping.
Allowing an option to rotate the screen, even if the DMD has to take up a bit of real estate at the top would be a good start. If they add multiple monitor support then even better. I just signed up at vpforums.com.
I haven't played VP in almost ten years and figured I give VP9 a shot since I've heard decent things about the physics engine. Now I think Future Pinball is OK with better visuals than VP but the physics really get me. FP is, to me, more punishing than real pinball. VP9 is a nice middle ground.
Also, they're several tables on VP that may never (or could) come to The Pinball Arcade and I wanted to play them again. Tables like Data East Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Fathom, Cactus Canyon among several others. I paid the ten bucks for the silver membership which gives you unlimited downloads and checked out a great tutorial on youtube because I didn't remember how to set up VP.
Everything works pretty good so far and my mac mini's had no trouble running it through XP in Boot Camp. It certainly doesn't replace TPA but it's not bad. Now I just gotta remember to cancel the subscription in a year to avoid the a recurring charge. Anyone know where to find that on vpforum.com?
Hi All, I used to play VP alot-It got me back into PB in fact! I used VP8 and would recommend this to try on an old PC-PacDude's tables were some faves. Recently tried VP9 - JPG (JPSalas and Groni's(?)) LOTR specifically.
But I had balls becoming stuck in the left 'E' (K 'E' - E P) inlane and 'vibrating' with weird 'stuck audio' meaning game unplayable.:( Anyone PLLLLLLEASE have any ideas?:( Andy Don't know what to tell you. I'm not getting any balls stuck in LOTR. Maybe redownload the table? Hi All, I used to play VP alot-It got me back into PB in fact! Try my Version, which is the closest you can get compared with a real machine. Table: Rom: http://megapin.org/Roms/lotr-roms.rar. You need to download the VP9 Version of it.
Try my Version, which is the closest you can get compared with a real machine. Table: Rom: Always good to see you Groni, And he means what he says everyone, Groni's tables are the cat's meow if you are looking for realism. Groni, just wondering, I remember you were working on a new extremely Hi Rez version of LoTR.
Are you still working on that? Was looking absolutely dreamy. Reading this thread has made me want to get back into VP, so maybe someone can help me with a couple of problems I ran into that made me stop playing it??
First of all, the sounds of the game, like flippers etc are perfectly loud, But the ROM sounds are whisper quiet! No matter what configuration I set coming out of my sound card, the sounds are barely audible. And yes, I set the sliders in the audio config both on max. Secondly, if I play the game as windowed, the tables seem in the correct proportion. But if I play full screen, it stretches the table. Is there a switch somewhere that stops this?
Couldn't see anything under the video options, only settings for stretching the ball. Any help, much appreciated. Couldn't see anything under the video options, only settings for stretching the ball. Any help, much appreciated. First, to adjust the ROM sound in most DMD games, you need to go into the adjustments screen (press F7). There you can adjust the volume, along with any other changes you want, such as difficulty. There are other tables that are more tricky, luckily there's a special topic in the help section at VP Forums which gives a detailed guide to adjusting sounds to some of these tables. Desktop versions are designed for 4:3 monitors.
If you have a 16:9, you'd be better off getting the cabinet versions (which are better anyway). If you can't rotate the screen 90 degrees, angle the monitor as high as you can, then turn it so the right side is facing you. This works surprisingly well. Of course, the best place is the help section of VP.
There are a lot of topics already there, and they respond to any questions rather quickly. They are very helpful and friendly there. Now, my favorite tables, both in design and accuracy, are: Attack From Mars (salas) - Great table, looks nice, good physics. Bram Stoker's Dracula (salas) - Not my favorite table, but the best table that uses the new Momentum Mod, which is the best VP physics build, though unfortunately few tables use it. Doctor Who (Krellan) - A nice looking table with nice physics. Plays very close to the real Who machine near me. Indiana Jones (Hiryu) - Love this table, even though this version seems awful fast and difficult.
LOTR (Salas) - The table I play the most right now. The tower skill shot is ridiculously hard to hit (never done it yet, while a real table it's not that hard), but it's still a great version of one of my favorite tables of all time.
Scared Stiff (Salas) - Another great conversion that plays close to the real thing. STTNG (Salas) - Great game, great conversion. T2 Chrome Edition - Probably the best looking table in terms of graphics. Plays nice too (though is somewhat harder than the real thing, and the T-800 head, required to lock balls, is more of an SDTM hazard than it is in real life.
Tommy (Hiryu) - Another solid conversion of an underrated table. Then there's Groni's tables, (TZ and TSPP are my favorites). Excellent versions of great tables, which I've been playing for years, though I do find some of his tables, particularly TSPP, to be much more difficult than the real machines. Always good to see you Groni, And he means what he says everyone, Groni's tables are the cat's meow if you are looking for realism.
Groni, just wondering, I remember you were working on a new extremely Hi Rez version of LoTR. Are you still working on that? Was looking absolutely dreamy.
At the moment I am working on a original table with a real DMD Rom. Maybe you saw the WIP on VPF. After that I will continue LOTR. Had a very tired time of creating Pinballs.
But now that SCEE needs neverending time to release the DLC´s in Europe, I use it to create my very first original game.
An original from you sounds exciting.i don't even think I could run that LoTR on my poor laptop, but you really show the world what VP is capable of.
Here is a video showing why VP is so wonderful. I call it the poorman's cabinet. It's a 22' monitor with the bezel removed, laying over the keyboard of my laptop, who's screen is being used for the backglass. I used a rubber 'rollup' keyboard for the control. For PC keyboard pinball, I urge you to try this configuration. Flippers: F and J key Second Flippers/Magnasave: R and U keys Nudging: G (nudge right), H (nudge left), Space (nudge up) Start: S Launch ball: Enter (For Getaway magnasaves work as shift up/down) Set the video to 1080p, it was recorded on my iphone in portrait (i had to play one handed and yes i sucked). If i can find the top-down view (though rotated).
The sound is super low.sorry and it was handheld. The first game is JPSalas's Eight Ball Deluxe Second game is Rawd's Triple Strike I think I might just get my setup going again, create a setup tutorial and try and cover my favorite tables.
Especially some of the originals that I absolutely love. I have played VP stuff a lot, but sometimes the graphics aren't entirely up to par (this could be dependent on the graphics card though.). Future Pinball also has a few original tables based off of stuff like Metal Slug and Akira, but the scoring is usually simplified and more reminiscent of older SS machines.
Usually it's a case of how sharp the images are that the author has access to. Some of the members there are amazing at redrawing playfields so if they take the time, they can sharpen up low res images but it takes a while. The two tables in my video above are amazingly sharp. I find VP not to be as sharp in 4:3 or Widescreen. I'm not sure why exactly, but full screen and rotated a lot of the tables will look far better. I tried to get into VP a couple of years ago, but couldn't get it to work properly on my old Vista Laptop so gave up and played Pro-Pinball instead.
Re-tried it again, about a week ago, because I wanted to practice TZ before getting my hands on the Real machine this weekend gone, realised I had to knock UAC off, and it worked at last. I was expecting something pretty crude but figured, it would give me a flavour of the table, instead of going in cold on the real thing. I was blown away by how it plays though, Wow! Once I set the view to Window as opposed to full screen, it just feels and plays so realistically. I downloaded a few more tables, and eventually got a Silver subscription. After the expo on Saturday, I came home (the missus went out on the pish with her mates, I was left babysitting) so sat down, and downloaded all my favorite tables I'd played at the expo, and was blown away how close the play felt to the real counterparts.
I was even getting very similar scores between the two. I'm really impressed with this and have found myself playing with this more and more, barely touched TPA this past week. I don't know why this is so good, but my guess would be its created by Pinball Fanatics using their own time for non-profit, as opposed to paid programmers who may not even be pinball fans.
Passion shows in everything! Can't wait to try more tables out now (thanks for your list Richard B), and maybe even have a go at creating something myself (I'm a CAD draffy by trade, with some programming experience, so should be in a good position to try). My 3 year old who loves playing pinball, would be made up if I created a 'Thomas the Tank Engine' themed table - bash the cr@p out of Diesel 10, cranky the crane playfield toy. I second that link from Bonzo and also most of this list Also go to and check out the most popular tables first.
Megapin, JP Salas has the best ones, but also check out some of the Melon, Lord Hiryu, and Uncle Reamus tables. There are other good tables also but I would start there and see if you get the bug first. And if you'd like to be real adventurous and can get past the bad flipper physics of Future pinball (download ver 2.3 or 2.4) go to and start with tables by Slamt1lt, Rom, francisco666, GLXB and BlindMankind and check out to see what developers are up to. I don't have his Centaur though, so I'll definitely check it out.
He made it so that when you get multiball, the balls become 'power orbs' which are these glowing clear pinballs of various colors. While lit, they score one set of points, dull, another. To relight them, you have to shoot them into their corresponding colored 'dock'. Oh, and you can use your own mp3 file for music to kick on when multiball starts.
I highly recommend using 'The Burly Brawl' from the 2nd Matrix film, as I found it fits to a tee. I'm fiddling around with trying to get VP to work on my dual monitor setup.
Is it possible to put the Backglass and/or DMD on my 2nd monitor without running a FS table? This isn't a cabinet setup (yet). EDIT: OK, I figured out that I can just drag the DMD to my other monitor (nice!).
Does anyone know how to resize it to make it fill up the screen horizontally though? I right clicked on it and went to settings, then selected 'double size', which helps a little, but it's still not as big as I'd like it to be.
EDIT 2: Figured it out:). PacDude used to be the man. He got fed up with the VP community a few years back, but I always found his tables to be my favorites. He would also put in a modded set of rules sometimes, and the one he did for Centaur is outstanding. I mean really really really awesome-sauce good. Anyways, here's the link. I used to use VP and post on VPforums many years ago and remember Pacdude often got hounded by one guy in particular it was a shame that he stopped making his great tables.
I used to use VP and post on VPforums many years ago and remember Pacdude often got hounded by one guy in particular it was a shame that he stopped making his great tables. Yep, can't remember who that guy was, but the two of them were oil and vinegar. Bummer was PacDude had either a new TAF build or more likely a ST:TNG table that he was about to release and instead said 'nope' to everybody because of that guy.
I pretty much stopped going to the forums (as did a lot of people it seemed) when that whole mess exploded. Also, are you guys playing on widescreen monitors? Do you go through all your 4:3 tables and adjust the X Scale to keep them from stretching on fullscreen, or is there an easier solution? This is what I've been doing. I usually multiply the X scale by.75, change the value and then save the table so that I don't have to do it again.
The only problem is with Groni's Megapin tables. The X scale is set to 0. I can't figure out how to adjust these for widescreen. I've searched the VP forum, but have had no luck. Right now my favourite tables are all of JPSalas.
He's released a ton of updates to his tables in the past few weeks. Check them out: http://www.gethome.no/jpsalas/. It's been over a year since I last installed VP, so I don't remember about nvram. How do I do that?
I noticed a lot of my highscores aren't saving either when I exit and load the table back up. Thanks for the posts on the widescreen stuff too, guys.
No idea atm dude dont use vp enough to have it in my head lol. In the mean time check your vp folder and name sure you got an nvram folder its writeable and if you have a lanucher its pointed to thr folder, if you alrady have one thats saving files rename that folder and start a new ss or dmd to crete new files. Nine of that may help dude sorry lol. No idea atm dude dont use vp enough to have it in my head lol. Nine of that may help dude sorry lol Thanks, man. I think I figured out what's going on. Since I'm playing with my X-arcade controller, I use a frontend to load the tables (MaLa). Whenever it exits a table, I think it's forcing VP closed before it can save to the nvram. If I hit F3 first to reload the ROM, it saves everything just fine. So I'll just have to make sure I do that anytime I get a high score or change anything. Gotta say that the best VP designers have turned out some absolutely stunning recreations.
Completely agree on the JPSalas Black Knight - it feels so much more like the real thing than TPA. And of course it is emulated so the rules are correct.
I will check out that T2 version too. Love that game.:) I really fell out of love with VP after a couple of years.
It was around the time that everyone started modding other people's tables and plastering EM reels everywhere. A lot of tables started looking like photos but playing like s**t. Even today I come across tables that have clearly been built by someone with no real knowledge of the real table. There's a VP9 Centaur (not PacDude's) that looks great but is scaled all weirdly and things like the multiball release target are impossible to activate! Some of the tables that are still knocking around that bear my name are actually other people's mods of my tables and not the originals. I guess that still upsets me a little.
Some of the mods were pretty good but some completely messed up what I'd spent weeks getting right. So many seemed to forget that getting it to play accurately was more important than showing off their photoshop skills. Of course, folks have come along since and completely remodelled those tables far better than I could ever have done, and those are the VP tables that I now really enjoy playing. Were it not for the likes of JPSalas and Groni, I would probably have never gone back to it.
I'm glad I did.:). Jeff, I believe so unfortunately. Did not notice before now since I play full screen most of the time. I find most tables looks better when I turn my 24' monitor so I rarely play 16/9 tables anymore. Uncle Willy, I think you will find most people here who have played VP lately enjoys it very much, but there will always be a lot of people who think it is to much work or they are just confused by all the different options, twiks and what tables to start with. I remember I tried it ca 10 years ago and gave up on it.
Installed it again a year ago and got blown away by it, And love it now. I would like to thank you, Groni and any other creators who might be reading this forum for all your hard work over the years on Visual Pinball. You can all be damn proud of what you have accomplished. I have a problem playing vp with a xbox360 pad: for some reason some of the buttons and the left analogue stick are premapped. For example if i press b it triggers the left flipper, if i press y the volume of vp goes down, start button is the same as pressing esc.
But the biggest problem is nudging, becouse i cant use the analogue stick with xpadder (which i use to assign keyboard buttons to pad buttons), becouse the right nudge now gets double assigned and it tilts immediatly. So the question is how do i get rid of premapping of the xbox360 pad? Completely agree on the JPSalas Black Knight - it feels so much more like the real thing than TPA. And of course it is emulated so the rules are correct. I've found this true of emulated TPA tables as well.
Taxi is one of the ones I've tried in Real life, TPA, and VP9. Although emulated in Tpa, JPSalas's VP9 played/felt closer to the real table in my limited experience. Also played a lot of FH on xbox & Android, then got on a real table 2wks ago, and was disappointed how un similar tpa felt.
BOP was the same. The real shuttle ramp didn't feel anything like the shots I was used to making in TPA. I'd love to know the answer re the xbox controller with VP, I've had the exact same problem.

I see that the new update (9.1.3) from Oct. 20th has this in the release notes: - Added controller button support to key options for all controllers - Koadic! Have you tried that yet? I think you will find most people here who have played VP lately enjoys it very much, but there will always be a lot of people who think it is to much work or they are just confused by all the different options, twiks and what tables to start with. It's not that I thought it was too much work, it's that my video card drivers didn't seem to agree with VP very well last time and many tables would BSOD either immediately or after a few minutes.
Despite lengthy troubleshooting, I never did get it stabilized. Maybe I'll try again this weekend with the updated VP and updated drivers. I had a lot of problems with my video card on one of my PC's until I enabled hardware rendering in the VP video settings. In the older versions, it wasn't an option in the settings, but you had to enable it on a table by table basis.so that's something that may possibly help.
Hardware rendering is a must. Had lots of problems before I used that. I had hardware rendering on. It would be a grievous insult to the pair of GTX 480s to not use hardware rendering.:p Serenseven, there is also a 4gb patch Very handy if you are using 64 bit windows. Windows normally only uses 2 gb ram for games. This patch lets you use 4 gb in selected x86 applications. Good for the more demanding tables in vp There are tables that need more than 2 GB?!
That seems a bit excessive for a pinball table. Was supposed to be doing some prep for a meeting tomorrow - but blew it off to try VP9.1.3.
Also got Uncle Reamus T2, And Jacks Open. Tried 9.1.3 with an old sidewinder pad, and yes you can now configure vp to respond to the buttons without a joypad interface program. Not tried analogue nudging yet with xbox controller. T2 plays beautifully, and Jacks Open is awesome (I'm going to play the cr@p out of that one).
Just noticed on these 2 tables, if holding a flipper up, you get a slight flipper deflection when the ball hits it with sufficient force - Love it, it's the small things in life that give pleasure!:D Only slight wish is. I wish the table would move more (on the screen - not in the simulation) when nudging.
I get a better sense of how much I'm nudging in TPA. Don't know if this is adjustable? Ah, so today i finally got it working so i can play the flintstones table (one of my favourites). It was a REAL pain in the behind setting everything up and it took me like 4 days to get it working (2 out of 3 of the old vp versions, not the one jeff linked to, just didn't work at all, those that did couldnt use the xbox360 pad), the frame rate drops dramatically when the table flashes a lot with jackpots and suprejackpots, and the sound is all crackly and tried numerous settings but to no avail. But hey it works good enough;) but vp really isn't much harder than tpa.
Or rather at all. But the flipper physics are better i suppose. Too bad the flintstones pinball will probably never see the light of day in tpa form:( or maybe some day i'll have enough money to buy a real flintstones table. That'd be really nice:o. Can anyone recommend a screen that can be oriented flat rather than just lying it on it's back?
Oh and I just made it to the Final Frontier on STTNG:D And completed the wizard mode on AFM:o Hey Carl, Any LCD screen should be fine laying on it's back.however, if you want to use it specifically for a pinball monitor, it might be easier to remove the plastic bezel from around the display. It's typically not that hard, just find the plastic clips and whatever screws might be holding the monitor mount to it (hint.look under stickers lol). I've posted a youtube video showing my cheap laptop 'cabinet' setup but that was before i removed the bezel on my monitor. Now there's a lot less bulk. If you are using a Plasma screen, i can't recommend laying it on it's back, from my research it's got nothing to do with buggering up the display, however, unlike LCD screens, plasmas have a thin pane of glass that of course is very brittle, if the display bends under it's own weight, that glass will crack and i'm pretty sure that it's important for the function of the screen.
--- Anyone done any tweaking to the nudge settings in VP. I'm using an old Sidewinder pad, with an analogue d-pad for nudge.
Any one got any tips on adjusting nudge settings, tilt sensitivity, nudge force etc. I've tried adjusting settings in the key edit gui, but doesn't seem to have an effect. Also I don't know if it can be done, but I'd like to adjust the amount the table graphic moves when nudged, I can't always see it on my laptop screen, I'd like a similar movement to TPA really. I'll have to have a dig on VPForums.org.
Just being lazy in case anyone already knew this. Hey Carl, Any LCD screen should be fine laying on it's back.however, if you want to use it specifically for a pinball monitor, it might be easier to remove the plastic bezel from around the display.
Could you recommend an actual screen? My concern is viewing angles as when it's flat, you're effectively viewing it from the side.
Anyone got any good recommendations for new tables to play? By the begining of next week, I'd recommend big bang bar v2 It has been updTed by jimmyfingers and myself.
Optomized and updated to use the new features of vp as well as jf's physics routines. Il be releasing it early next week at vpuniverse. And later at vpf. Jf will also be releasing his mod of jp salas afm.
It has 8 step fading gi as well as the physics routines. Plays like a dream. All coming early next week Glad to hear more contributions to vpu.
Thanks for that. Glad to see more development here. Carl - have you tried Future Pinball recently, latest physics updates made it very nice, but you do need a better graphics card than I possess. The flipper physics feel very realistic, with shot strength being proportionate to how far down the flipper the ball is when flipped. Lack of consideration of this in TPA bugs the cr@p out of me personally. I was playing Centaur last night, and cradling on the right flipper, and could easily and consistently perform a strong enough vertical shot to travel the full length of the table and hit the 1,2,3,4 advance drop target accurately. Realistic??? BTW - just wanted to say a quick Thank you to unclewilly.
I've had countless hours of entertainment with your tables and really appreciate your sharing them. I will be the first to admit that some aspects in Future pinball is vastly improved with 2.5 but your impression of the flipper physics is so far from my experience that I wonder if we live on the same planet:-) There seams to be a lot of different opinions on Physics in Future pinball and of course I respect your view. I just do not understand it at all. To me the flipper accuracy angle shots is so frustrating in future pinball that I want to tear off hairs I do no longer have. The ball goes everywhere but where it is supposed to. I think this is the strong point of TPA. You hit what you aim for (yes the ball is a bit light and bouncy but the accuracy is (in my view) 1000 times better on tpa than FP.
In VP, the tables with the best physics are better than in TPA but this is far from true on every table. At least in VP, the engine allows for you to have great physics. I still play some FP and enjoy it but it could be so much better. Just my view of course;-). I'd agree different tables in Future Pinball do have differing degrees of flipper accuracy. I tried Seawitch this weekend gone, and that was not good accuracy wise.
Maybe my graphics card could also be giving me different results to you. I have to run on bare minimum settings, perhaps a miniscule slow down gives me better shot timing than you. It's only recently I've retried FP and with limited tables, but it has impressed me enough to want a better PC to give it a full settings tryout. TPA whilst having better shot accuracy, I personally find frustrating due to the flipper power near the pivot. Aside from the Centaur example in my previous post, another example is Dr Dude. Cradle on the left flipper, and you can shoot a vertical shot 85% of the way up the mix master ramp.
On a real DD I was struggling to get accurate rolling shots off the right flipper up there. Hands up, you have infinitely more real life experience, I play once in a blue moon (3wks ago since last), you have several of your own tables, so if you say TPA is closer to reality, I won't argue, but I quite enjoyed FP.:). Baron: Thumbs up on your last post.
Your reasoning is bullet proof and I agree about everything:D and you are absolutely correct about the flippers in tpa being to strong. Btw: having a real pinball table or two does not make my view any better than yours. I have heard some strange comments on the web by pin owners (myself included:D) Some of my personal problems with FP could be due to my setup but I see the same problem often when I look at youtube videos of FP. (but I feel it is a little better with a keyboard than the Pinball Wizard controller) Looking forward to testing it with a real cab in xp to see if there is any difference Now back to VP;-). Looking at getting a 23 inch screen that has a stand which can be rotated into portrait, is it worth it? Its about £160.
My current screen doesn't have a VESA mount or anything (Samsung Pebble) and the fixed stand just tilts back and fourth slightly. The view on this differs on vpforums but personally I find it worth it. I found out by accident that my monitor can rotate and I have not played a single desktop table in VP since.
The only drawbacks with one screen in portrait is that you loose a little bit of depth and that some of the dmds will display sideways, but to me the feeling of having the tables on the whole screen in portrait just feels so more natural and there is so many great full screen tables now in VP I'd say go for it. Looking at getting a 23 inch screen that has a stand which can be rotated into portrait, is it worth it? Its about £160. My current screen doesn't have a VESA mount or anything (Samsung Pebble) and the fixed stand just tilts back and fourth slightly. 23' is quite small and sometimes the stand makes the price high. Another option maybe worth considering is buy a 27' monitor for a similar price and don't worry about the stand being rotatable. Then buy a cheap wall mounted bracket (amazon have them for about £10) and attach it to the wall where your desk is.
I did this for my son and the 27' looks incredible. The view on this differs on vpforums but personally I find it worth it.

I built a new computer a few weeks ago and pulled out an old monitor, found out it works perfectly turned sideways for FS tables. I play it with a gamepad. It even supports analog nudging.
I want to build a cabinet now! SO yes, Carl Spiby, it is worth it. I don't even have a stand right now, I just prop it up.
The monitor I am using detaches from the base and I use the base to keep it from sliding. Karl, This will help you turn those DMDs correctly: Post #2 in that thread is the trick.
Just insert that line in the script at the proper place. Most of the tables already have that line in the script, they just need uncommented. Again thanks for the tip DrainoBraino. I tried it out and it works like a charm. Your suggestion is very much appreciated (insert smiley of me dancing) Hey no problem, glad I could help. I've been trying some FS tables on my office monitor as it rotates to portrait, I've noticed the flipper area looks a bit squashed up, is this because they're intended to be viewed with the monitor flat on its back?
Hmm, I never noticed it being squished up. But the perspective and dimension of FS tables are a bit strange compared to the desktop view. The flipper area may seem to be smaller because you're so used to looking at the table with the flippers in the foreground. Someone just posted a good idea for getting Portrait orientation out of pretty much any Monitor cheaply. Buy a folding guitar stand.
Cheap/Compact Display Stand to Play Portrait Pinball on Any Monitor http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0091RENSI/ref=redir_mdp_mobile. I played a Family Guy tribute table on FP before it looked like this: JIM: All those tables that Carl is asking about is available in Future Pinball if you go to but I believe he is asking about Visual pinball versions and those are not available to the public yet because of the 'is it legal' debate but if you go to and search for SAM threads you can see pictures of some tables done for private use, but do not PM the authors about the tables (read the rules on vpuniverse) Asking in a polite general way like Carl did is your best hope.
If the creators feel like charing they will pm you back. Just a warning: vpforums.org is strickly against doing anything SAM until 3 years after STERN have quit using the SAM DMD (tables from 2005-) and they are still using it on Metallica so there will be at least another 3 years until we see any newer Sterns over there. Funny thing is someone actually asked Stern (at one of the shows) if they're bothered about emulation, they basically said they don't care.
It's a farce alright. The 3 year rule have been debated for a long time. I remember on a future pinball forum some time ago that someone from Stern posted a warning when a brand new table was being recreated. I can't remember the exact words but it was something like this. Please do not make a version of that table yet because it is still in production. That sounds much more reasonable to me, to just wait until they quit selling the machine but then there is also the SAM DMD emulation debate regarding VP that most think is just bollocks and sounds totally unreasonable to me.
The 2 tables are: BALLY - TWILIGHT ZONE - MEGAPIN - VP9 - V1.2FSNM.Final.vpt and BALLY - TWILIGHT ZONE - MEGAPIN - VP9 - V1.3.vpt i play both tables but they have errors: in the lost in the zone when the ball goes to unknown hole they dont give me a jackpot problems too in powerball mania (they dont give me a jackpot) now at the moment 3 balls goes to the hole in normal mode its triple jackpot 150 million in the operator menu they dont put a jackpot setting i put 2 videos and 2 images and if somebody can helps me i thanked it. Not the most accessible sim. I am trying hard to get medieval madness to run. I got so far I have the rom and all but when I start the image is magnified so I only get part of the dot matrix.
I can hear the game starting and all when I hit the keys but can´t see much. I don´t seem to be able to find a graphical setting that will let me see the table.
I had the table visible before when I didn´t get the roms working. Can you toss up a screenshot of this? That would be helpful.
Also, did you grab the desktop version or the 'FS' version? Are you playing landscape or portrait? I recently starting using FP especially for a table i couldnt get anywhere else and TPA was just not getting it. I was able to figure out how to run FP. On VP i do not understand the install instructions and i am not even sure if it will run on windows 8.1 64 bit.
FP was not hard to figure out and in most cases you just put the file in the Tables folder. Back one page there was some buzz about VP forums i tried to pay the $10 for unlimited downloads but kept getting an error so i am limited to 2 downloads a day (i got the table i wanted anyways so no biggie).
(I also asked this in the VP forum, but didn't get a solution yet. Maybe someone here has an answer?) Until now I played VP (and TPA of course) with a Logitech F710 controller, which can be set to X-input or Direct-input with a small switch. For VP I have to use Direct-input and that works fine.
Meanwhile however I also bought a Xbox 360 wireless controller, to see how that works and also because it is easier to have a dedicated controller for my HTPC and for my tablet. To assign keys I purchased Xpadder. That also works fine except for nudging. When I try to nudge with the left joystick, I get 'Tilt' immediately even when I barely touch te joystick.
I assume that many of you also have a Xbox 360 controller and use it for VP. If so, can someone help me to set up VP and Xpadder to have it working for nudging?
(In TPA and of course without Xpadder it does work perfectly, although I still have to practice nudging). (I also asked this in the VP forum, but didn't get a solution yet. Easy way i found around this issue is load xpadder + vpin table etc but don't connect pad till after the tables loaded voila problem solved nudging should be fine. VP has been on my PC's since forever. A few years back, I used to hang at vpforums quite a bit. They used much older forum software than they do now. I haven't really visited there in.years now. It really has been like 2-3 years.or more.goodness.
I actually helped gather the assets a 'table creator' needed to recreate the first Tri-Zone table for VP. I could minimize this window and play right now, as a matter of fact. Back then, I built up a gnarly collection of re-creations, and a sizable handful of original VP tables. I used this ancient menu manager called VPTM (Visual Pinball Table Manager). I don't know if it still exists at vpforums or not anymore, but that's where I got it all those years ago.
It says I currently have 716 tables at my finger tips. I love that it simply listed my tables in columns, alphabetically. It was written in basic, so it was easily editable to tell it where your tables are, then it lists them out in a simple selectable list you can play any table through. It's simple, practical, and it works. I have it all set up to do what I call a 'gut and stuff', I can transfer the whole program (12GB) and move it to another PC while retaining nearly all functionality. Just by moving it and running 4 files to set it up.
I got it going on with VP stuff! I'd have to trash everything (except that handy menu program.possibly) and start all over again. I considered it 'done' when they went to VP7 and most of those 700+ tables wouldn't work anymore, so I'd have to start all over again with the collection. At the time, there weren't many tables for VP7 yet. So, if they are up to VP9, that will give you an idea of how long ago it must have been.
But I still have over 700 tables to play at my finger tips. Even if they are 'inferior' versions of them.;).
After i got my new PC i finally decided to give VP a whirl. Following a few hiccups in setting up roms in the proper directory I got it up and running. THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!
I can't believe i've been missing out this long. Playing classic tables like Atari's Superman and Bally's Mr & Mrs Pacman or modern tables like Lord of the Rings and Simpson's Pinball Party is a dream come true. (Licenses be damned!) VP9 has some terrific graphics.
The sound emulation is generally spot on and best of all it's FREE! I have many more tables to happily hoard. So far I have around 50 working tables. Download Aplikasi Photo Editor For Nokia C3 there. I will be getting all of the recreations of real pinball tables.
VP is a great program and looks to be improving a lot. Did you grab the alpha version release with the new physics? Graphics are hit or miss with VP, a lot depends on the author's skill level and the resources available, but there are some beauties. Tables by JPSalas look amazing as a general rule. Tables by Groni (megapin) play amazing. Bob5453 has some amazing originals as well. Also, check out Rawd's recreation of Triple Strike.
It's a top notch creation and a showcase of what VP9 is capable of. Rotate it how? You download the FS table and just playing it will start the table in full screen. You will want to leave windows in landscape orientation. The only hangup you will have is that the DMD will be sideways. I believe it's sideways counter clockwise.
You will need to open the script and there is an option for DMD rotation ( I can't remember the exact line in the script) but you will want to change something to =ROR (for rotate right) or =ROL (for rotate left) then you can stretch and place the DMD anywhere you like. That is a simple single screen setup, it gets a bit more complicated if you start using backglass monitors and whatnot. Here are my DMD rotation steps for FS tables if you're playing on a single monitor: 1. Load table 2. Open Scripts 3. Find the following setting (may not be exact syntax for all tables): 'Games(cGameName).Settings.Value('rol') = 1 4.
Change to the following syntax: Games(cGameName).Settings.Value('rol') = 1 5. Save table 6. Launch table 7. DMD window should be rotated. Right-click DMD and choose 'show border' 8.
Resize/Move DMD window where you want 9. Right-click DMD and remove border Many of the table designers have added the 'Games(cGameName).Settings.Value('rol') = 1' command in the script but have commented it out. So all you have to do is remove the comment, save it, and resize and move the placement of the DMD.
But you'll come across tables that do not have DMD rotate command in there. If that's the case you'll have to manually add that command to the script. It's a bit tricky on knowing where to add it but typically its somewhere between 'With' and 'End With'. Example: With Controller cGameName = Array(Romset1,Romset2)((BBBUWOptions And (3*cOptRom)) cOptRom).GameName = cGameName.SplashInfoLine = 'Big Bang Bar, Capcom 1996'.HandleMechanics = 0.HandleKeyboard = 0.ShowDMDOnly = 1.ShowFrame = 0.ShowTitle = 0.Games('bbb109').Settings.Value('rol') = 1 End With Controller.Hidden = 0 On Error Resume Next You may have to play with the location in the script you place the rotate code. You'll know its wrong when the table launches with an error or the DMD doesn't rotate. Also in my example I'm using tables ROM name which I find works more often. It's a pain to do this to each of the tables but worth it.
I'm using a 1280x1024 monitor. If i just start a FS version with 9.2, the game is rotated and stretched. Looks very bad. Tried rotating from the ati control panel, didn't help, as half the image was missing. If i would rotate the monitor, fs versions still are no good, as the aspect ratio is messed up from the stretch.
Yeah not sure if you can get that working. I think he meant rotate the monitor physically (e.g.
Put it on its side). If you don't have a good way to do that then the FS tables are probably not going to be worth it.
The other option is to get a monitor that will rotate on its stand. It's the poor mans cab but works pretty damn well. Oh sweet, that's an official release now? And does that have the improved physics as well or is that kept as a separate fork for the time being?
Obviously you're the person to ask around here, the more I've been on VPForums the more I've seen your name pop up! It does not have the improved physics. They wanted to do an official release with as close to full compatibility with the feature set of DX7 VP as possible, and seeing as the improved physics are still in beta and require some table tweaks to get working well in a lot of cases, they were not included. Still a great release though - plays SO much better on my PC than the DX7 version.

I'm not sure what the plans are for the physics beta/tweaking thing, but hopefully that gets forked (hope I'm using the right terms here) into the new official DX9 VP sooner rather than later. Having a blast getting existing tables running well with it. After a couple of tries where I lost my patience and just shut down my old PC without accomplishing anything, I finally got VP working on my old W7 64bit machine. It used to crash all the time when loading the table data, but this time I uninstalled everything, made some tea, took a few deep breaths and followed the instructions on the VPForums site with full attention. Suddenly I´m playing Addams Family, Roadshow and Simpsons.
(It really shouldn´t have taken me so long, since I´m kinda used to all this romset business from my MAME experince, but it took me ages to realize that the table and the rom are two different elements.) I gotta say, while the quality of the recreations varies wildly, tables like Addams are very impressive: Runs super smooth, and the physics feel very convincing - faster and harder than most TPA tables. TAF is one of the very few tables I actually played in real life, and from my memory this feels very authentic. The biggest thing, though, are the mechanical sounds in that specific table. The flippers have this heavy, loud OOMPH behind them, the bumpers rattle in a very satisfying way - it´s very hard to go back to TPA, where the flippers sound like they were made of cardboard and rubber bands and recorded at what sounds like 11khz. Got VP working after so long! The problem is the program gets into registries which causes security issues in the latest operating systems. It's due to sloppy or antiquated programming. That aside, the new tables are fantastic! Only trouble is, it's the three bears all over again. TPA makes tables easier than IRL (though much less so from STTNG on), while VP is often much harder than IRL tables - I couldn't nail the rocket ramp on Apollo 13 once! The sounds are definitely an improvement though, and the physics on the newer tables are mostly spot-on (you have to judge it on a per-table basis.) Sometimes though, they nail it, like the recent T2 (the latest in the always great Chrome edition).
This not only played better than TPA (no more endoskeleton SDTMs, like in TPA and previous VP versions), and nailing those ramps was also much easier than TPA and earlier versions. It's been so long since I played a real one, I don't know if it's more accurate, but it certainly is more fun. The only downside are the cannons. Not one successful hit in any games. For those of you having trouble, someone on VP Universe kindly pointed out that some of these tables (such as Spider-Man, Avatar, POTC, X-Men, and Tron) are set to B2S. You need to go into the script and change it from 'b2s.server' to 'VPinMAME.Controller'.
A good way to see what ROMs are needed is to try to launch without them, then it will tell you what name you must change it to. The Stern website only has the latest roms for each version. If the table you are playing has earlier (or different) roms scripted (like right now POTC is set for English/Spanish roms, which will not download - you get the English/French roms instead), change the script to the name of the one you have.
